Play relax and take notes1/5/2024 ![]() ![]() There are lots of tips on the forum about building range, which is at least part of what you probably need to do. As Majorchubbs correctly observed, you can only learn so much from forums and online videos.Ģ) What I do or anyone else does may not work with your embouchure and playing style-and may, in fact, be detrimental, if not outright harmful if your embouchure type is different.ģ) It doesn't matter how long you practice or how hard you work if you're doing it wrong.Ĥ) If more people understood what their embouchure muscles are doing when they play in the high range, there wouldn't be so much bad and flat-out wrong teaching on playing high. To the contrary, MajorChubbs' reply is very much to the point of what you're asking.ġ) Private instruction is the BEST way to learn because a competent instructor can SEE and HEAR what you're doing and correct mechanical faults we can't. I'm asking very specifically what other people's muscles are doing when they are playing high- say around Bb above middle C. I have a private instructor, I do work hard, and none of that is what i'm asking. But the scolding tone of your response may inhibit others from chiming in. ![]() Be patient, and polite, and you will normally get good answers here. ![]() You should not assume everyone thinks the way you do and will understand exactly what you are asking. But for those not so blessed, it takes more time, more research, and more work. They will probably sound relaxed all along their path. Some players are lucky enough to have a outstanding teacher and good role models around them. After all, if it is a lot of hard work for you to play a high Bb, it is not likely to sound easy until you practice enough (and practice correctly, hence the need for a teacher) to hone your abilities so you can take such notes in stride. And there was the implied wisdom that it takes years to develop the skills to let you play in a more relaxed manner. In fact, it contains some basic advice, including that you should have a good teacher (which was not apparent from your original post). Um, there was nothing wrong with majorchubbs' answer. ![]()
